Hello All,

Just wondered if i could get some advice.

Could anyone advise whether a manual callpoint/control panel type fire alarm system would generally be required to be installed within the common areas of a converted mansion over 5 storeys?

The stairwells are not lobbied etc, however the doors to all flats appear to have 30 mins fire resisting structure.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Would it be possible for anyone to send me some guidance materials on this subject for common areas of residential properties?

Thanks

John

You should be looking at a minimum of a hard wired detection system to BS 5839 Pt6. However, depending on the layout you may need a system to BS 5839 Pt 1. Your fire risk assessment will identify this. Pay particular attention to passive measures in an old building especially within roof spaces and basement. I am assuming that the roof void & basement are the landlords responsibility? You also need to look at emergency lighting, signs etc. This may be a job for a specialist as this is a converted old building. Also, what are the means of escape as this is a 5 floor building?

Hope this helps. E-mail me if you need help.
