Hi all, Some advice required please...
The main contractor is insisting on the use of bearing pads under the jacks of scissors lifts on site, although he has stated that the ground is suitable for MEWP usage and this is an extra precaution.
Surely if the ground is suitable then bearing pads would not be necessary and if the ground is unsuitable then wouldn’t the use of bearing pads falsify the reading of the sensory device of the scissors lift which prevents the jacks being lowered on unsuitable surface?

The statement "suitable for MEWPS" does not mean that the ground can take the load exerted by a pad of a particular area. This has to be checked separately from the manufacturers information and the ground report. Given you have done this there is a case to argue. It is a bit like the scissor lift argument however and the use of harnesses. They are not required but some contractors cannot be otherwise persuaded.
However if the PC has made this a site rule it is then a site rule and is enforceable whether or not you think it necessary.
