I am thinking of moving over to Australia for a while. I have a primary degree in technology and a masters in Safety Engineering and Ergonomics. I am also a Chartered member of IOSH. My background is civils, but I have a lot of experience in residential developments. What kind of Salary, lifestyle is there? I would appreciate any advice!

Hi Sean

Having just come back from Aus last week , I can assure you that there is plenty of work out there. Aus has a major labour shortage in all trades and Skills

The lifestyle is good and the pay is about the same as here unless you do FIFO (Fly in Fly Out)which pays a lot more but involves weeks out in the bush.

I am assuming that you are under 45 and with the quals you have got u shouldn't have a problem getting a job.

Try and get Sponsored that would be the quickest route but you would be better off going in as an independent.

You will have to get your Quals checked with the appropriate governing body but it shouldn't be a prob.

Don't be put off by the red tape and the length of time it takes it is def worth it.

I went in as an independent with my trade being an Electrician but I am now looking at doing Health and Safety out there. I have spoken to several RTO,s (Recognised Training Organisation) and they pretty much accept British Quals and you just pay a fee to get them verified and hey presto you then can get a Aus Qualification.

I only have Nebosh Gen Cert but i am in the process of getting it verified and with the Experience I have gained over the years I might even get the equivalent qual out there.

If you have any other questions just drop me a line.

Regards

Frank
