Posted By Hazel Harvey Bob, We have now received approval for IOSH members to obtain the CSCS cards without having to undertake the NVQ. All those applying in due course will need to show their experience specifically in construction activities and I am meeting CSCS next week to determine exactly how we do this. Once this is organised we will put out a press statement to this effect.

Posted By Arran Linton - Smith Hazel,
It is the gold, platinum and black cards for safety supervisors, safety managers and senior safety managers, which are aligned against NVQ level 3, 4 & 5. At this rate we will end up with a forth (yellow) card.
Architects and Quantity Surveyors are only issued with one type of card, which is the yellow Professionally Qualified Persons Card.

Posted By John Middleton The PQP is for an unspecified visiting professional, spending less than 30 days on site in a six month period; examples are architects, surveyors, engineers etc. I would hope that IOSH membership will give the safety officer/manager card based on TechIOSH/CMIOSH respectively. While there is also a senior safety manager card, I have never understood the rationale behind this as I thought the NVQ5 was a qualification for a regulator rather than a senior manager.
The touch screen test will still be necessary as it is currently a requirement for the NVQ holders of the card. There is no point in debating this issue as it is one of the cornerstones of the scheme an dwill not be changed to suit safety professionals, just bite the bullet and spend the £17.50. Any TechIOSH/GradIOSH/CMIOSH working in construction would not need to revise to pass.
Also remember there is a £25 fee for the card.

Posted By Les Welling We audit CDM sites and had to take the H&S test to obtain a CSCS card. We have a yelow one for "Construction Site Visitors" We did ask for exemptions but were told no way! All the team here hold various Safety, Health & Environmental qualifications with 4 members being CIOSH. We are all qualified Safety, Health, Environmental & Fire Auditors.

Posted By Hazel Harvey Why would anyone want to hold 3 cards at once? I can't think why they would need to do this! The 'touch screen test' is a requirement to get the card we have not been looking for a waiver from this. I have heard a rumour(?) that the visitors card needs renewing on a monthly basis with the associated fee. Anyone else aware of this? If you can let me know anything of this nature before I meet with CSCS can you let me know so I can find out the validity of these sort of statements. It has been my experience that there is sometimes a grain of truth in some of the rumours but it often isn't the exact truth.

Posted By John Middleton The cards are categorised per job so it is feasible that someone may hold a Carpenters Gold (NVQ3) card in addition to a Site manager's Platinum (NVQ4) card. There are also associated schemes like scaffolding (CISRS card) which may be held, but I don't see the value in holding all three (gold, platinum and black) safety professionals cards.
A visitors card is renewable every 5 years and requires the basic test.
