Posted By Darren Crossman Hi,
Does anyone know if there is a specific ration of the numbers of toilets per head of population in an office building. I am looking to expand the occupancy of the building and need to know if I need to install additional facilities

Posted By Andrew W Broadly - up to 5 people, 1 toilet and washstation; 6-25 people, 2 toilets and washstations; 1 extra toilet and washstation for each subsequent 25 people. For men a mixture of toilets and urinals can be provided. Toilets should never communicate directly with a room in which food is prepared or eaten. Taken from http://www.lhc.org.uk/me.../pubs/factsht/48fact.htmAndy

Posted By Bob Shillabeer Generally this is covered by the Workplace, Health ands Safety Regulations 1992 specifically Regulations 20 and 21, table 1 of Regulation 21 holds a table showing the minimum requirements for mixed sex offices/workplaces and table 2 for men only.
The figures are Table 1: 1 to 5 needs 1 WC and 1 wash station 6 to 25 needs 2 WCs and 2 wash stations 26 to 50 needs 3 WCs and 3 wash stations 51 to 75 needs 4 WCs and 4 wash stations and 76 to 100 5 WCs and 5 wash stations
Table 2 is more generous 1 to 15 needs 1 WC and 1 Urinal 16 to 30 needs 2 WCs and 1 Urinal 31 to 45 needs 2 WCs and 2 Urinals 46 to 60 needs 3 WCs ans 2 Urinals 61 to 75 needs 3 WCs and 3 Urinals 75 to 90 needs 4 WCs and 3 Urinals and 91 to 100 needs 4 WCs and 4 Urinals.
Un case of sanitory accomodation used only by men, table 2 may be followed if desired, as an alternative to column 2 of table 1. A urinal may either be an individul urinal or a section of urinal space which is at least 600mm long.
Remember an additonal WC is required for every 25 people above the 100 or the fraction of 25.
For fuller reference I suggest you refer to the Regs themselves as there are some splits when working with over 100 staff.
Regards Bob.
