Posted By KEVIN O'KANE Sitting having my dinner last night , with One show on in background. I nearly choked on my jacket potato..Eve Pollard (who you may well ask) on safety officers stating " I seen these jobs advertised and they get paid alot of money" since when has the SHP being tucked away in Ladies hairdressers with the Hello and Marie Claire? We are still not getting paid anything like a yesterdays journalist, who appears once in a while on national TV with her words of wisdom

Posted By Shane J Well I've seen safety officer positions offering 50-60K (Euro)s, with 5+ years experience and the necessary qualifications. Log on to www.contructionjobs.ie and search "safety officer". Maybe safety is better paid in Ireland.

Posted By Lee Mac Ireland is like everywhere else- the Dublin area pays good, but you try to buy a house down there. I live in Ulster, the money well, it all depends who you work for and how much H&S is valued, again like a lot of other places. Although in general, I believe Ulster is definitely lagging a little, but perhaps I am a little biased!! Lee

Posted By jackw. Hi, yes wages are better in the irish republic. I live in the west of scotland but fancied a wee change and applied for a job in Cork. Wage 55k Euro not bad. but as has been said cost of housing is way over what i could afford even on that wage..remember too income tax, VAT etc. in irish republic is much higher. Add too cost of health insurance.. wages are not reflective of the cost of living esp housing. Pity cos as a frequent visitor i love the area. Cheers

Posted By Shane J Lee, You are right, cost of living in Dublin is crazy. I pay 650€ a month rent and an additional 160€ a month private parking I would happily do the same job further west for 8-9K less a year, but dublin is where the action and experience(H&S) is.

Posted By DJ I can tell you that most of the jobs advertised in the SHP show higher salaries than a junior solicitor gets, that for sure. DJ
