I am involved with a Chicken Processing Company
I am looking at the dust levels in the chicken handing areas.
I am trying to get information on the dusts that are generated by hanging Live Chickens.
I am trying to get data on employee exposure levels and what the employer is required to do i.e. extraction system, dust masks, other measures
Can anyone direct me to where I would get this type of information

Thanks

You may be lucky and find out the dust levels in other, similar environments but the only way establish the dust levels in your situation is to measure it; a competent occupational hygienist will be able to help if you do not have the necessary expertise.

As to what the employer is required to do; that will depend on the dust levels found although the main risk may not be to the dust per se but to any microbiological hazards associated with it.

The BOHS Directory (http://www.bohs.org/resources/res.aspx/Resource/filename/780/07_cons_dir_190607.pdf) has details of consultants who may be able to help you.
