Running courses, events at external venues - checks?

Posted By Gilly Hi
The church which I am advisor for H&S at runs lots of external events - such as childrens away weekends, adult walking weekends etc. What sort of assessments/checks do other people tend to use for ascertaining that the external venues themselves(the ones run by other organisations, such as schools) have met the H&S regs, and how far do you go with them - i.e. do you insist on seeing their fire risk assessments for instance or in reality do you just ask for assurances that one has been carried out/being worked through in order of risk? Thanks in advance.

Posted By Tabs Ask for copies, read them, try to apply the "would I?" test ... would I let my nearest and dearest go?
You would be devastated if the worst happened and when asked "Didn't you check?" you could only answer "They said they did one..."
If you are going to tell people you have vetted an event, then you really must vet them.
Working through the corrective actions of a recent fire risk assessment could even mean that a dormitory that has no fire alarm has been quoted for the provision, but not yet had it ordered let alone installed and tested ...
