Not sure on time NEBOSH held but suggest going the NVQ route, plenty of training providers out there.

Hi Robin,

You can go for the Dip immediately. As to the best way, that depends entirely on you and on how you best learn, plus how much dosh you've got. You can do accelerated courses which cost several thousand pounds but which have a high pass rate, you can do distance learning which is cheaper but still 1K plus; some of the providers also have very high pass rates. I did mine at a local FE college, which had a modest pass rate but was very cheap. So which style suits you best and how much can you or your employer afford?

As Badger says, there are other routes to the same level of qualification. There are Diplomas offered by British Safety Council, Nottingham Trent Uni and so on, or there is the NVQ route (you have to be working in H&S for this to be possible) or even a Bachelor or Master's degree.

Me, I did the old Dip2 in 2000/2001 and have never looked back; other people have found other routes just as valid; and when I shortlist for interview in a week or so I won't be too bothered about the precise nature of the qualification, just the level,

John

As far as I am aware there is not any criteria stipulating how long you have had to hold a NEBOSH Cert for, before starting the diploma.

The diploma route is taught over a period of time with examinations at the end, and if you have little experience may be the best route, whereas the NVQ 4 is more about gathering evidence and producing a portfolio of work, and demonstrating your understanding and application of the subject matter, which if you have limited experience or involvement may be more difficult to achieve.

You may also wish to consider the British Safety Council Level 6 course (taught and examinations) which is an equivalent route to CMIOSH if that is your goal after completing IPD and additional requirements and keeping up with your CPD.

You are the only person that can decide which is the best route for you.

IMHO all 3 have their plus and minus points, with no particular route standing out. Prices vary across the country, and are dependant upo0n your choice of teaching (distance learning, block release, day a week, assessor visits, email contact etc).

If you conduct a search across the study forum of diploma and nvq4 you will see that there are plenty of threads identifying the above.

Whichever you decide, may I wish you all the best in your future learning.
