Posted By Agustin Nathanias P Deiparine my company is the main contractor and we have this american company as HSE consultant to the client. I have argument with our HSE client consultant on this matter; a scaffolding inspector has approved an 8 meters tower scaffold with 4 level platform. when i saw it, 2 standards on opposite side was omitted due to work requirements. i have it closed but the inspector was insisting and even showed me he load testing with 1 ton load. as i confront him, the HSE client consultant called me up and told me that he allowed it for practical reason. now my friends and advisers out there, when can we consider practicality over technical requirements in HSE or vice versa? in your practice, how often you allow practicality over technicality? in what way? thanks

Posted By Merv Newman Augustine, I can't comment on the practical side of you question as I know nothing about scaffolding. I would suggest that perhaps a third opinion could be useul. In any case, did your consultant sign something to say that he had accepted legal responsibility for the situation ? If he won't do that then don't trust him (why am I assuming that its a man ?) Merv

Posted By RL Agustin I am presuming this person is competent....i wouldnt comment without actually seeing the scaffold itself, however, like Merv says something in writing from him/her would be a place to start Rich

Posted By RL Further to my above post, i would say practicality over technicality only when someone competent is willing to put their name to the practicalities in writing!!
