Posted By Glyn Atkinson We use concrete floor paint with an agreed colour code for different applications - so - green - pedestrian walkway, maroon - vehicle route, green and maroon stripes in areas where a pedestrian walkway cannot be physically achieved but both vehicle and pedestrians need to be present (pedestrian right of way), blue - permanent storage-ie waste skips, bins, packs of timber ready for machining, grey - segregated work area (access to work personnel only - no through route), black and white stripes for all pedestrian crossing areas. The colour schemes are explained to all including visitors at induction sessions, and are constant across all manufacturing sites, including a sister company in another part of the country. We have a coloured hand out leaflet to hand out to all new starters and visitors that has a site floor plan and all areas coded in it. Upon entrance from the offices to the factory, there is a colour display board that reinforces the colours and areas before going into the production line areas. This works for us very well, controls segregation of people and traffic in a set and understood manner, and got us out of a threat of an Improvement Notice five years ago. There have been no incidents or accidents involving personnel and traffic internally in the factory since this scheme was completed. Hope the idea of our colour scheme may be of some use.
