Posted By Charles Mc Breen Apologies if this has been raised before.
I would welcome hearing from any colleagues who currently operate an organisation wide database for the recording, and sharing (within the organisation)details of incidents of aggression and violence incidents(with the emphasis more on violence).Comments on in-house or proprietary systems welcomed.
Regards.
Chas.

Posted By Rob T Hi Chas,
Are you talking about in the UK or abroad? I worked for one organisation who had a data base of incidents that employees could look at before going to really rather dodgy places. I always advocate this for each company that I work for. The info was always on a personal basis and not in any regulated format. This proved excellent for real feedback.
Cheers Rob

Posted By Descarte is this for a country level or a person by person in an area level?
Obviously the police have a database (PNC?) which records violent behaviour etc. on each individual and there are many companies out there who do security updates for international travel such as AKE, CR24 and others

Posted By Charles Mc Breen Hi Rob and Descarte.
I'm talking about the UK (we are a Local Authority)and looking for a data base of incidents that employees could look at as part of an RA. The info needs to be in a "regulated format" to comply with Data Protection legislation - but perhaps not to the same standard as the Police or the type of detailed security update.

Posted By Chas You may also wish to refer to the Information Commissioners Office website. They have produced a guidance note on the use of 'violent warning markers' on personal data. Hope this helps.

Posted By Philby' Billy,
is there any chance I can have some info on your database...I'm looking at integrating all the systems we have in this authority as each service area uses something different and, what with the Data Protection Act, we need one point of reference for recording and sharing info....
Thanks in advance
Philby'

Posted By FJ The problems we have encountered include: 1) It is vital to keep such info. VERY up-to-date. 2) There is a definite risk of people over -relying on the information and getting complacent. 3) What if the individual is "out" or "elsewhere"? 4)Obviously the info must be kept very confidential- but not so much so that no-one sees it! 5)There may be triggers that change someone who is normally placid into a "danger"- how do you record these? Time of day, other issues with the Council, school runs... 6) Contact with people like the Suzy Lamplugh Trust was invaluable- if you have identified a significant problem you MUST provide training etc- and they are very good at providing it. 7) Are you going to go so far as recording all visits- good and bad (see points 2 and 5) It is a vital part of our safety system- but does require much work and thought.

Posted By The toecap Whats all this about data protection Charles? What if a violent person kills a contractor because you failed to tell him about the risks from an occupier. Do you think hiding behind data protection will help you and the brereaved family? Contractors don't want to know personal details like date of birth etc. They want to know if the occupier posesses a risk. I get fed up with local authorities hiding behind somethinmg they know very little about and putting our guys at risk.

Posted By Philby' Toecap,
I dont think Charles meant that info would not be shared, and to say LA's pontificate about something they know little about is a bit strong....
the reason we are consolidating all our potentially violent persons records IS to comply with the DPA but it is also so that there is one system we can access, AND share, with ALL interested parties...something thats difficult enough without the four or five systems presently in place that dont talk to each other
