Posted By John_Webster It has been my practice to conduct periodic inspections of each of our departments. I am assisted by a basic checklist of items to look at which of course will vary according to the hazards present in each.
I only manage to formally inspect each area annually, which is inadequate, and it has also lead to department heads sometimes taking the view that they are not responsible for checking themselves.
I could give each a copy of the checklist, but they need a standard against which to assess their own performance (eg, my checklist may just refer to "workspace", the standard would state how to calculate the 11m3 minimum with its provisos, and perhaps reference an appropriate publication for further guidance).
Now I am quite capable of producing such a document -given time, but it seems to me that there must be something like this already around and, if so, one that somebody might be able to point me to or to share with me. I see no point in wheel re-invention, so any contributions will be gratefully, and unashamedly received. Whilst Healthcare sector orientated would be great, it's not essential as of course I would still be ensuring fit with the departments concerned.
Thanks in anticipation
John
