Do you want to restrict this to just OHS areas or include everything such as the 'energy performance cert from next year, EL insurance, discrimination (ageism etc) data protection, employee rights, etc etc?

Posted By CFT This is only a suggestion, but it may be worth looking at the changes from the 19th century to the 21st and actually writing the assignment based upon the changes industry has experienced; you may wish to include the 'worker compensation laws from 1902, or go back further to the 1833 Factories Act mainly affecting children and then detail the employment law side in terms of ageism, discrimination etc and slowly start to cross reference how from the Factories Act 1961 & the Offices, Shops and Railway Premises Act 1963 to HSWA 1974 & supportive regulations how the working environment had to change to meet the requirements placed upon them. Try a bit of lateral thinking and don’t restrict the assignment to your own environment, go much wider and you will easily go over the word count that is required, you will actually find it quite frustrating that you want to include a lot more than is actually required.
I'm not suggesting you spend anymore than say a summary of the earlier years, but it will demonstrate how you have come to appreciate just how the legal environment in the workplace has evolved; it may not suit you to do it this way and it is just a suggestion.
I often feel when producing assignments that the interest comes from the research and when you get the information down on paper you end up having a damn good understanding of just why we have this legislation, one door will automatically lead you to another and you will see how many areas lead you back to OHS, above all else, have fun whilst doing your research and enjoy the experience, if you do, you will remember the detailing for many years.
It really has changed over the last century and a half and the likes of which I doubt that anyone will ever see again; it may therefore make a good read.
Good luck

What course are you doing?
Speak to your tutor. He/she should be able to give you guidance.
You could start by listing all the relevant legislation and then base your assignment on one particular environment. There are so many different working environments you can't be expected to do an assignment on them all. The best thing to do is to base it on your own working environment.
Hope this helps
