If one company from a group of companies has a waste carriers licence can all companies within that group use the licence or do they all need their own?

I would assume that they can, however it would be best to phone the EA 08708 506 506 they will let you know.

The Controlled Waste (Registration of Carriers and Seizure of Vehicles) Regulations 1991
6-(2) In the case of a business which is or is to be carried on by a partnership, all the partners shall be registered under one entry and only one registration number shall be allocated to the partnership.
hope this helps

As long as you stipulate that the company with the certificate is the one carrying goods or has an exemption letter in place.
A lot of hauliers also do this. You also need to verify that all vehicles are suitable and do not allow materials to escape (standard road regulations).
Predominately, Waste carriers licensing is an administrative regulation but any company found to flout the registration process can have the certificate withdrawn.

Yes, all within a company group can use the one Waste Carrier Licence but only if each of the directors of the company are registered with the EA and the carrier licence AND each of the branches or depots are also registered to use that licence.

Having asked SEPA this exact question, I was informed that if each company in the Group had a separate company registration then you require a separate carriers licence for each one.

Advice I have recieved backs this up,
We have 3 companies.
The parent company operates the waste transfer staiton at our premises, two subsiduary companies each operating in different areas bring a variety of waste back to our main premises as a byproduct of there activities.
the EA has advised that each company must have it's own waste carriers registration and a copy must be displayed in each vehicle.
Each transfer of waste is also accompanied by a transfer note referencing the appropriate company

It's companies that are environmentally friendly, not the EA or DEFRA.
Companies run the landfill sites, are waste carriers, produce different types of waste from their business, surely they can legislate themselves and then let the EA / DEFRA enforce.
This legislation is extremely complicated and costly with little gain in terms of helping the environment or sme's.
(a bit like the H & S game, so many competent people with differing answers to a simple question)
If a company pollute a stream, they would be made to pay for the clearing up of that incident and any other costs, not taken to court and fined (that fine going straight to the treasury)massively for breach / s of unnecessary irrelevant legislation.
Is the cost of disposal of a product already calculated, included and collected by goverment in the retail price?
my thoughts entirely
