Morning all you good people out there.

What I am looking for is a template for doing DSEAR Risk assessments. Before I commit myself to doing them or going for external resources I would like to find out what is involved.

As like everyone else sometimes if the cost is pohibitive then in house assessments might be the only way. Trying to find out if that is the best option or not.

Would anyone like to share their assessments to allow me to work out if it is better to do inhouse our not. Don't want to reinvent the wheel so to speak

Thanks in anticipoation

Regards
Robert

Robert,

I would suggest that, if you are not familiar with DSEAR, then you would benefit from the IOSH course on the same. Its excellent value and very imformative and you get templates for assessments!!

DSEAR is not just an add on from COSHH, its quite complex and the amount of knowledge needed to complete a suitable DSEAR risk assessment is considerable.
Things to consider include dust, powders, fumes or vapours, organic or inorganic, flammable or not, concentration levels required, flash points, LEV reqts, static electricity, earthing, sources of ignition, spontaneous combustion, pressure, pressure release or explosion panels, explosion containment, fire suppression, powders or granules etc etc etc

I cant find my DSEAR folders at the moment (think the wife has put them in a "safe place"!) but if it turns up I'll see what I can dig out.

Not much help at the moment,,,sorry

Having looked into this, I took the decision that I was not competent to carry this out and therefore outsourced.

If you search some of the uni websites you may find templates, I did, that is when I decided to convince my employer that outsourcing was by fair the more sensible option.

If you would like details of the company that we used please do not hesitate to contact me off forum.
