Following the recent thread about escalator accidents members may be interested to know that I have been presenting courses on lift and escalator safety to environmental health officers around the country. Most recently I presented to about 100 attendees at the Buckinghamshire Branch of the EHO's and I am scheduled to present again in Manchester and Belfast before the end of the year.

I do not charge for these courses when they are being presented to professional bodies and I am more than happy to attend IOSH branches.

If anyone wants to know any more information please contact me.

My history with accident investigations involving lifts & escalators goes back some 27 years and I have written the safety column in the UK trade journal ELEVATION for the past 13 years. Many of you may recall assisting me with information for my research project for my PhD into accidents where people have fallen from escalators (over the side). I am also the co-author of Elevator & escalator Accident Reconstruction & Litigation and have sat on the BSI committee since 1990. I also authored the well published report into accidents on escalators involving shopping trolleys.

With the fire service increasngly unhappy to release people stuck in lifts, and the requirement falling to staff with relevant training, I think this training is worthwhile. If you have any more events planned in the south please advise.

I am happy to present a course in our offices in Eastbourne if that is of any use. If there are sufficient numbers (more than half a dozen) I can arrange.
