Hi folks,

dealing with the topic of fire within a warehouse environment, downloaded from Communities & local goverment,

Fire safety, volume 2 buildings other than dwellinghouses. Is this the main document I should use??? not the easiest read.

Up grading a warehouse (low to normal hazard ) and just recieved a fire RA from a specialist company.

The owners have designated 2 of the internal doors as fire exit doors ( not final fire exit doors) Do said doors have to be 30min fire stoppers?

Do final fire exit doors have to be self closing.

We have 8 seperate roof voids that will be partitioned so that fire smoke cannot travell. We have a single access hatch to each void so that we can service electrical and refrigeration equipment. Will this be ok.

if you are trying to comply with building regs e.g major refurbishment or construction of the warehouse then Approved document B Vol 2 would be the correct guidance. It is also useful guidance if you are assessing your building against current standards.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'Up grading a warehouse (low to normal hazard ) and just recieved a fire RA from a specialist company'.......Does this mean you have increased the risk or reassessed the existing risk? have you engaged a risk assessor as a result of upgrading the risk and you have received the report?

The internal doors would not necessarily be fire resisting doors. They could just be doors on an exit route. You need to provide more information as to their location e.g. corridor doors or doors onto stairs etc.

Final fire exit doors do not have to be self closing unless they are also fire resisting doors. Again it depends on their location.

The access hatch sounds much the same as any access hatch to a loft space. Generally all that is required for means of escape is a fixed ladder that can be lowered when the hatch is opened but once again there is insufficient information to give a definitive answer e.g. how large are the voids? is it a high bay warehouse? in which case how do you get access to the voids?

I guess more detail would help you get more answers.

Take this the right way Garry but if you paid a specialist company to do the fire risk assessment should you not be asking them? Also, all of these questions should have been satisfied in the FRA.
