Dear fellow professionals
I was wondering could anyone out there offer me some advice for risk assessing a family fun day with a twist.
It is going to be based in the middle of a construction site. My field is construction not this side of things.
Besides the normal protection of the public, security, first aid, management I was wondering could anyone offer advice on
- Working with bouncy castles ( the supplier is only setting it up and dismantling it and leaving the rest to us to manage)
- Outside catering - e.g. BBQ
- Do I need to inform local authority?
- The day as such will run between 10.00 - 14.00
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
For those of you cynics I have already considered not putting on the day but unfortunately it is out of my hands. I just need to look at the safety side of things.

Not easy, but your main duty of care is towards everyone at the event. A construction site is dangerous so look to fence it all off, and treat the space being used as nothing to do with construction.
If, however, the purpose is to make use of part constructed whatevers, then look for another job quick!!

Hi
Do not forget some of the kids will/may climb over onto the construction site, notices etc will not stop them, will you need a security person on site for that time?
Also query supplier of bouncy castle about air source, is it a compressor with proper guards etc, also power source may be a generator, noisy, smokey and hot.
Often 230 volt supply is required. You might see long trailing leads with lots of tape on various bits of leads etc.
Will it require petrol? where will this be stored? I did see a generator once located a little away from the action, but was missing a guard, so chance serious injury.
Does the bouncy castle have to be tied down? Who will keep an eye on it?
And last of all have an enjoyable day.

Thank you for all of this great advice.
I plan on heras fencing off all areas and using the hardstanding / car parking area for the activities.
Nice soft sand to place the bouncy castle on but will be sure to check the air supply and equipment.
I have security on main entrance and guided tours around the rest of the areas.
I have First Aid cover and welfare / toilet facilities aplenty.
I will even have an ambulance on site being used as one of the attractions.
BBQ will be cooked in kitchens.
Think I just need some alcohol now to calm my nerves (Kidding)
