Posted By CFT In one of our establishments we have a 200 seater conference theatre; on occasions wheelchair users have booked the centre for a variety of conferences.
Evac chairs with dedicated users are available at all times but today I note the numbers have far exceeded the intimated ambulant users we would have in the theatre. Lifts will descend to ground floor on the the alarm activation and this will then require the evacuation of said wheelchair bound users.
There are 17 here today and I must admit to scratching my head with this unexpected amount and exactly what is the best procedure to use for evacuation. You think you have it all covered but I must confess even dynamically assessing this gives me a real concern.
Normally we will convert downstairs for this type of conference thus ensuring everyone can be removed safely from ground floor, sadly the detailing has not been accurate on the amount of wheelchair bound users that would arrive. Since starting writing this, 3 more have arrived.
Any thoughts?

Posted By ITK CFT,
As you rightly point out you normally use the ground floor for conferences with high numbers of wheelchair users, this is correct.
You will just have to bite the bullet on this one today I am afraid.
Write to the organisers explaining that in order for you to discharge your duties under fire legislation they MUST inform you how many wheelchair users are likely to attend so you can make the appropriate arrangements.

Posted By CFT Generally I would agree it is acceptable in the FRA, sadly I just cant accommodate that many!
Anyway, a meeting now arranged with all parties to revue the booking procedure to make certain I am not put in this embarrassing position again.
