Hi all,

This is not my usual field so I'd appreciate some in advice or feedback in regards to a skill seeker coming to office environment and hence the risk assessment as required.

Ive looked through the forums and the HSE website and I cant find anything that relates to whether we should include a risk related to traffic/transportation etc. Should we consider how the individual 15/16 year old, will travel to our workplace (busy city centre). I feel that we should at least go back to the school and parents to find how and when the student will be travelling so that we can expect him/her to arrive safely. But am I going too far (I have several neices and nephews which may account for my personal cotton wool approach here)?

thanks in advance.

MAK,

I would have thought that you would need to know when the person was due to arrive.

I would not have assumed that how that get to you would be your responsibility.

If you have any questions you could clarify them with the liaison organiser of the work experience.

However, should a scenario arise where the work placement is due to usually finish at say 5pm, but for some reason doesn't finish until say 10pm (ie due to some work being undertaken that it is of value for them to see / be involved with) with a later start time of course, then it may be prudent to arrange some sort of collection agreement with the work placements parent / guardian.

Hope this is of some help,

Regards,

TF

Hi,

Be careful about YP's on placement working too late, as there are restrictions on the time they can work 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. if my memory serves me correctly. As for your responsibility whilst they are travelling to and from the placement, you have none unless they engaged in a work task or carrying out something on the company's behalf, you (the employing placement) like the placment's school only have responsibility during their (the placements / pupils) hours of work or whilst in school and cannot be held responsible for anything that occcurs beyond these times.

Cheers Pete
