Posted By Anthony Slinger Could I just run this calculation past any experienced noise assessors?
Operation-Electric chisel-LAeq(dB)102.2-Duration .5hrs
The LEP,d for the operative conducting these operations for the period of time indicated is 90dB(A), which is above the upper daily exposure action value of 85 dB as prescribed in the Noise Regulations.
Splitting the work equally between two operatives would halve the overall exposure of one operative to LEP,d 87dB.
Operation-Electric chisel-LAeq(dB)102.-Duration.25Hrs each-LEP,d(dB)87 each.
So if the team shared the work and only undertook the operation once in a seven day period then the weekly exposure for each operative would be LEP,w 80dB which meets the weekly lower exposure action value of 80 dB.
I think I am correct, but would like to be sure.
Thanks
Anthony

A working week is five days, not seven; what value did you use in your calculations?

Posted By Anthony Slinger Paul,
Thanks for the reply.
The exposure to noise varies markedly over the week so I feel that using a weekly exposure would be appropiate.
I used the weekly exposure ready reckoner in the noise regs guidance to go from a LEP,d of 87dB for one day (160 points) to a weekly exposure of LEP,w of 80dB.
As I understood it "the LEP,w takes account of the daily personal noise exposures for the number of day worked in a week (up to a max of 7 days)"
Where I may have gone wrong with the weekly exposure is not taking into consideration the LEP,d of other working days in the week (which could be up to 6) even if they are low i.e 79dB for 6 working days and 87dB for 1 working day would give a LEP,w of 83dB!

Yes, you will have to take other, significant noise exposures into account in arriving at your weekly average.

Posted By Anthony Slinger Paul,
Again, thanks for that.
I think I am on the right lines now.
