I am sure that they must be offered health surveillance.

I have a similar issue. I work in a prison and staff will be expected to work 7 night shifts and then seven days off. The shift will start at 7pm and last until 7am.
They have all had medicals and are deemed fit to work but should i be doing anything else to ensure the health of these staff.
If health surveillance is required what should it consists of?
Cheers for all responses and help in this matter.....

Working at times when our circadian rhythm means we want to be asleep can have health impacts. This applies particularly to night shift workers, with heart and stomach problems being the main concern.
The working time regulations require night workers to be offered a free health assessment before they start working nights and on a regular basis while they are working nights.
A health assessment can be made up of two parts: a questionnaire and a medical examination. The latter is only necessary if the employer has doubts about the worker’s fitness for night work.
Working nights means fatigue is a general issue. As well as longer term health affects, human error is more likely.
