Posted By Simon Carrier I would like some advice regarding CDM. We have a project to refurbish the internals of 3 interconnected buildings on site. I understand that CDM is applicable but I am being told that each area will be completed individually before moving onto the next area. The total time for the construction work will be greater than 30 days. I am inclined to say we should notify the HSE but I would like another opinion from someone who works with CDM on a more regular basis. Any help/advice appreciated.
Thanks

Posted By CFT Sounds to me as if it is one project, on that basis alone it is indeed notifiable under F10 based upon what information you have provided.

Posted By dan looney As a rule, always best to notify if there is any doubt. However i would definitely think of this as one site as opposed to 3. Would you have 1 safety file or 3??

Posted By Simon Carrier CFT Thanks for the info thinking about it as 1 project rather than 3 buildings helps and certainly puts us above the threshold for notification.
Dan If it was up to the FM we would not have any!!
Thanks

Having worked for a local authority that was prosecuted by HSE in the late 90's for failing to acknowledge that some additional road signs were part of a CDM project my advice would be that it is all notifiable as one project.
The actual incident that triggered it was hitting an 11Kv cable. The Design team who were the Client function were fined under CDM for failing to ensure that all information ie Utilities drawings had been provided and the Direct Labour Organisation under Sec 2 HSAWA etc Act '74.
