Posted By Edel Breslin I realise the title is a bit long winded and unclear however basically if as a college we have foreign students come to visit for study purposes and we place them in rented accommodation (paid for by us)...what steps must we take to ensure the safety our the students whilst using this accommodation...is it sufficient to have a control of using only reputable landlords,,,,who defines this and what obligations do we have re: escape routes, fire safety, structural safety etc.Thank you

Posted By A.Dennis Hi Edel,
big question.
Basically eveything that you would be required to do if they were in your own accomodation.
Some of the things you should look at:
If they have an appropriate level of insurance? Do they have a licence? Do they have emergency evacuation plans? Legionella? Fire Risk Assessments Fire detection and Fire Prevention measures? Adequate Maintenance Programs Inspections?
You may also want to look at enhanced disclosure.
I would say the first 3 will give you an indication to wether they will be suitable. I f the first 3 are no then forget it.
