Hello,

Next week I'm assisting someone carry out a risk assessment for a new member of staff who is blind.

I've started to put together a list of things i need to consider:

Work area (trip hazards, routes in and around the desk)
Routes in and around the workplace and how they will get onto the site
How they will find there way around
Evacuation procedures
Access to facilities

If anyone has any experience in this i would appreciate any advice.

The person is being supported by a local charity who is going to advise on the workstation etc.

Colin

One immediate thought - some form of "audio path" to indicate escape routes, unless you can be certain that "buddy" procedures will always be there - does the person expect to work late when there are fewer people about?

Hello

The person involved will be working in a 9 to 5 office so a buddy system should be ok. we also have a robust fire team that manage evacuations and staff on site in the area 24/7 so i expect we will be able to use a buddy system. I will however bring it up at the time to ensure we cover all the options.

Thank you

Colin
