Posted By Chas I'm after a bit of advice. Whose responsibility is it to test/inspect the fire hydrants that are located on the walkways within our premises boundary? I know the fire service test the ones in on public highways from time to time but what about the ones on other types of property? Thanks in advance.

Posted By Geoff Parkinson On private land - not the public highways etc, the fire service usually carry out the first inspection but after that it is down to you to arrange. Most fire services offer this as a 'chargable' special servie. Other fire services may well do it for free if you ask nicely.
We always found letting them hold drill/exercises on our sites was a useful carrot (for them and us) as they got a good idea of the site and checked the hydrants at the same time.

Posted By John Donaldson I think you will also find that if the Hydrant is connected to the water main before the Bypass valve the Fire Brigade will test it as a matter of routine irrespective of its location.
However if it is on your side of the bypass valve it will be your responsibility to test.
