Posted By Larry Shannon Just looking for other Irish SHE ( or otherwise) opinions.
We estimate approx 2000 plus tops/leads on site. We also have staff electrical and contractors electrical companies . 50 % of plant is Ex rated. there is a robust maintenance and predicive mantenance regime in place.
While the Gen App Regs don't specifical insist on PA testing, what other options are available
For information we have been had prices of 6euro-9euro pr plug/lead to test and certify
recommended to do all appliances first year and review in second year
alternative is to do PAT ourselves, but I can hear the objections re manpower( no pun intended)
Opinions

Posted By Larry Shannon Just back from IOSH Eastern branch seminar on the General Application Regs.( Well done to all, a few problems with the AV and seating but a huge crowd and will prepared speakers) The Assistant Chief Director of the HSA Robert Roe, confirmed that PA testing on all equipment is not a legal requirement. ( never thought it was). As we had already decided, risk assess the portable appliances, there frequency of movement, assign inspection schedules, include visual inspection on housekeeping checklists, utilise existing electrical competent persons on site , and reduce the number of appliances needing certification to a workable number. Checklists, labelling, awareness levels all play apart in electrical safety.
Interestingly Part 3 Reg 27 section 89(b) to be revised in an Amendment regulation to the General regulations( first of a number of amendments I would suggest) "yearly" to "periodically"
