Posted By Todd Hallam Anyone help with the requirements of driving dumpers on roads? I have heard varying comments ie operator over 18, has full car licence, dumper is road registered, is within 1/4 mile of site etc but no specific guidance notes can be found!

Posted By David Matthew Todd, I asked a similar question not so long ago. From what I have been able to find out I understand that dumpers are classed by the DVLA as work trucks and as such must be registered and taxed. Drivers must have catergory B on their licence and dependant on the weight of the vehicle must either be at least 18 or 21. If the journey is greater than 1000m then the construction and road use regs apply. I think the 1/4 mile rule may have applied to farmers but is often quoted perhaps in error. Also there might also be an implication from Customs & Excise about the use of red diesel if traveling over 1km. Hope this helps, David
