Posted By Stephen Wilkinson Hi All, I am still quite new to the OHS arena, however for a contract we are tendering for requires us to send our environmental statement to them.
At the moment we dont have this in place, however I am willing to write this into our policy.
I need some assistance into what it would cover etc.
We are an office based company & only produce waste paper.
Any help/tips appreciated.
Stephen.

Posted By Tarquin Farquor You could have a look at BS 14001, better still BS 8555 may be more beneficial to give you some idea if what should be covered.
You could also google the topic and look at those of other organisations to give you an idea of what could be included.
Have a look at the envirowise website, they have a lot of user friendly information.
Ultimately if you want to deliver what the policy offers consider some further development in that area or engage a suitably competent person to assist.
Remember that the policy is just paper, its what you actually do that counts.
Regards,
TF

Posted By Paul Craythorne Stephen,
Your company's environmental statement should reflect what your organisation is doing to reduce its impact on the environment and comply with legislation. It may form a series of short commitments e.g. to reduce energy, reduce water consumption, reduce paper waste, carry out recycling , driving more efficiently etc. etc.
Whatever you put in the statement must be what you are actally intending to do. The policy statement is fluid and therefore requires updating when new objectives and targets are identified or when legislation changes or when changes to your activities and processes dictate it.
Quite often companies just put a policy statement together to satisfy a client need but do not intend to deliver against the commitments made (much like many H&S policies unfortunately!!).
Hope this helps.

If you 'Goog' a search you will see many sample policies that may give you some idea of what is required; the information contained therein will contribute no doubt towards the creation of your own, and who knows, may actually make your company a better one if you actually do what you say, rather than having a compliance statement only.
Good luck
