Posted By Graham Harris Can anyone advise? What health and safety responsibly do places of worship, including graveyards, have towards the general public? is it the same as any other public place? i.e. shops Do stairs and guardrails need to comply with legislation? if so what legislation, building regs and health and safety? Do accidents, including reporting, need to comply with RIDDOR?

Posted By Ali Places of worship have to comply with the same legislation as other public / workplaces. Of course there are special hazards here not found elsewhere, but there is no special legislation. Also check out the quinquennial report, which will help towards looking at building safety aspects. Nothing like being thrown into the deep end for learning - I once had to inspect 60+ churches + a cathedral in Newark as part of a contract.Prior to that I had inspected only 1 church. Ali

Posted By Chris G Thanks for the correction, as I said I'd heard a rumor (from a CMIOSH source) but hadn't seen anything to back it up. I'm also a bell ringer (Local association PR officer) so have an interst in getting correct facts on this.
