Hello All,

At a recent audit our auditor was looking for a separate risk matrix for carrying out Manual Handling. Does anyone recommend a risk matrix or a good source of information/guide on carrying out detailed risk assessments on manual handling?

Thanks,

Lisa

You can access the Manual Handling Assessment Charts from this link http://www.hse.gov.uk/msd/index.htm

It is not a bad source of information. The RoSPA site also has information on assessment for M/H

Lisa:

If you have a system of risk assessment that does not include quasi-scientific, nearly objective number crunching, and you are happy with that system- tell the auditor to go away and revise his recommendations.

There is no need to have an assessment matrix simply to satisfy an auditor.

The generally recognised management systems do NOT specify a matrix - the regulations do not require a matrix - the auditor is there to assess what you are doing, not tell you to do it differently because he likes it another way(unless your current system is deficient in some way....). If you rauditor won't listen - get another auditor.

Sorry, its been a bad week , and this is one I feel very strongly about.
