It's Friday and it seems the same story can be found in many web sites. Some folks may not agree with what he says but will of course defend his right to say it in the democracy that we enjoy the right to live in.

However it may be that some people will be at odds with what he has to say and may wish to discuss it further in an open forum.

Is it permissble to publish a link to Google? Or would that be subject to copyright etc?

I don't understand why the whole thread has to be removed because of one post. Moderators should have the option to delete individual posts or edit them to remove the offending quotes or links. Maybe it's time for a better format for this forum that allows such things?

Dear Heather
The Moderating tools do allow us to do precisely what you mention - and they give the dreaded message - [The content of this message cannot be displayed at this time]

What we cannot 'fix' is when the message that kick-starts the thread has the copyright problem within it! That is when the whole thread has to be hidden.

Sorry - I did not answer all your points.

It is not our policy to edit people's posts. We sometimes suggest that a person re-post with suggested modifications.

Thanks for the quick reply Jane. I understand the reluctance of Mods to edit other peoples' posts, but could an exception not be made - perhaps just to edit out the quote - if the offending post is the thread starter in a thread that has attracted a number of replies?

The issue about the format of this forum is one for another thread I think!

To answer Eddie's direct question - yes you can reproduce a link from google or any other search engine. These are in open public domain and the link itself cannot be copyrighted. The content however can be so if you want to reference something here just post the link.

Cheers
Rob
