you will find this information in the Building Regulations or Scottish Building Standards depending on where you are.
There may well also be a BS but I'm not sure about that.

Count the number of people per exit eg 100 people for 4 exits = 25 per exit. Assume the largest exit is unavailable and then do the calculation on the remaining exits. Escape route widths are then as follows:
750mm - Up to 80 people in high risk areas, 100 people in normal risk, 120 people in low risk - 900mm where a wheel chair is likely to be used.
1100mm - 160 people in high risk, 200 people in medium risk, 240 people in low risk
