Hi
I'm trying to work out the MD's carbon foot print with all his flights abroad.

Q. Does anyone know how or better still the formula for converting aviation miles into Co2 produced?

Have looked at DEFRA but without success.

All responses gratefully received.

Google Carbon Offset and you should find a couple (!?) of sites that give you CO2 output for the distance travelled.

(If you can't be bothered, click on http://www.climatecare.org/ and look top right quarter)

Thanks Tabs,
Have already tried the web site you sugested. What I omitted to say is that I need the formula for inclusion in an XL spreadsheet.

Not hard to do ...

Find three or four destinations that you know the distance to (you can Gooogle that too), input the destinations, divide the resultant CO2 tonnage by the miles, and then take an average of the results.

Crude but should give you an idea of CO2/mile.

Put the CO2/mile x miles in spreadsheet.

Test on three/four other sites, and see if they are doing their maths similarly.

Thanks Tabs.

A collegue found something on the web based on Kilometers. So for those who wish to know of it goes as follows with silly short distances:

Long haul - ((((100 miles x 4 (No. of trips)) x 1.62 (to covert to km)) x 0.11) PLUS
Short haul - ((((25 miles x 20 (No. of trips)) x 1.62 (to covert to km)) x 0.15) = Sum total of carbon footprint
