Posted By David Bowen I work for a company that has a fleet of 90 vehicles, mainly car derived vans. Our contract work takes staff all across the country to various business locations. A visit may last anything from a day to a week, so driving can be sporadic and lengthy.
Moreover, I am fully aware that driving time is now being scrutinised by authorities in the event of serious driving incidents.
At present, we don't record driving time even though my fleet risk assessment clearly indicates this should be done. Snr management have reservations; they see it as an enormous paper chasing exercise and would expect a flood of complaints from staff about the extra work. They also believe that staff will make up hours, if a job runs over, to claim overtime or make excuses. Ultimately, it would be detrimental to the business.
Has anyone had to establish driving time recording? How have you managed to do it painlessly?
Thank you in advance.
