Hi,
Does anyone know of any Airports that allow staff to smoke airside since the smoking ban came into force?
Thank you in anticipation.

David,
I have not seen any smoking environments Air-side in any major airports that I visit.
What I have seen though is a whole load of Cigarette buts in stairwells, Vehicles, and any other secluded area with no CCTV coverage.
This was an area of concern to myself as we all know humans are devious and will try anything to get a smoke. Therefore in Hazardous environments I would far rather see controlled smoking areas, which unfortunately would need to be fully enclosed than some stray fag end causing a fire and major impact to an operational airport.

Depends on what you class as airside, is this inside the RZ? then most definitely not. Some areas may be airside but outside the RZ. Some maintenance facilities are 'Airside' but outside of the RZ.

However there are specific rules governing the distance you are allowed to smoke when near an aircraft, cant remember what they are.

Depends on Airport Operators / Airline local requirements are.

Remember a few years ago sitting in an aircraft at Tblisi. The two guys operating the fuelling rig both had lit cigarettes dangling from their mouths throughout the operation!!!

There is nothing in the smoke free legislation which prevents smoking airside. Provided there are no H&S issues and area is not wholly or substantially enclosed. Prestwick airport in my area has an outdoor smoking area for passengers at the departure lounge. Don't know if staff can use it tho'.

The regulatory distance in the RAF for smoking around an aircraft used to be 50 feet.
