I know this has been talked about quite a bit on the forums and it is something that many are still not happy about. But unfortunately my new contract position requires the card so I booked a test. Unfortunately the Q/A book will take 5 days and the test is tuesday. Whilst I am confident of passing, you should never be over confident so.... does anyone have the latest version on PDF that they can send to ensure I dont miss something, alternatively, have you taken the test?

I don't have it on pdf, but I thought you could buy the book from WHSmiths?

I sat and passed the manager's ticket in 4 minutes, read the book for about 5 minutes and I'm positive some of the answers given in the book were different from those on the actual touch screen test. Personally I wouldn't bother with the book.

Thanks, both WHS and Waterstones take a week or more. Am sure it will be fine without.

Doesn't it just say something about the usefulness of this scheme and H&S on construction sites generally when someone can take and pass a test aimed at managers in just 4 minutes!!

Why do we bother??

1. Ladder length = 9mtr = Caught me out

2. RIDDOR = revise the basic requirements regarding reporting or not reporting = Caught me out again.

3. there is a relatively small number of questions that unless you are specifically dealing with construction day in and day out may catch you out despite the rantings about how easy it is.

However, you don't just sit the test and get a Gold Safety Managers card.

I believe you have to also demonstrate that you are NVQ4 trained (May have changed yet again recently.)

It can be hard as many CSCS phone operators will tell you to go and jump unless you have the NVQ4.

I had to appeal and it took some time too:

1. Find the right person from which to appeal.

2. Get them to understand that my work does involve construction safety even though I am a consultant.

3. Send back my application of which was refused despite my appeal previously being upheld by the main man himself (GJ) (CSCS admin error).

Finally get my shiny gold card of which no one has asked to see (YET).

Now I have to send it back to get updated due to recently doing SMSTS course for APS application.

I bet half the people whom have sat the test have had a shock when they actually thought that getting the card was a piece of cake. I did and 6 months down the line am wondering if it was all worth it (Course it was).

If you do not have the NVQ route I suggest getting ready for a appeal unless that has changed recently.

Maybe others can advise

Jason,
It has IOSH membership is now recognised in the Professional Membership Mapped Route.
Graduate Member = Gold
CMIOSH/CFIOSH = Platinum
Techncian Member (with NEBOSH Construction Certificate)= Red.
All of these can get a yellow Visitors card if they are not permentantly employed on site.
There is still a requirment to undertake the touch screen test.
