Posted By Barrie M Dexter I am looking to understand the legal position of using our self propelled MEWP on public roads. This is an occasional occurrence which only happens when we need move the machine to different work areas at different ends of the site (we have public roads through our site). The activity has been risk assessed and is covered by our insurance. I have been asked the questions about our requirements for road tax or vehicle licence. We have been working under the assumption that as we only move the machine on public roads to access areas of our site that we had some sort of 'Farmers rights' I was hoping someone might be able to provide some guidance on this matter.
thanks
Barrie

Posted By Dave Merchant IPAF has guidance on this: http://www.ipaf.org/en/resources/reference-guides/You want the link saying "Schedule 3 engineering plant" which covers what precisely you're allowed to take onto the highway depending on the design, weight, etc. and under what circumstances it can be driven (in your case the use is permitted by regulation 9e as long as the requirements on design and load carrying are also met)
