Posted By MT I don't think persons occasionally using PDAs in the course of their work would fall within the normal definition of a VDU "user", being a person who habitually uses display screen equipment as a significant part of his normal work.

The definition of a 'user', quoted by MT, is contained in the Regulations. There is plenty of information in the accompanying guidance document to help you decide whether employees are 'users' in a particular set of circumstances.

Jargon gives everyone a bad name, especially us folk in H/S. You can imagine how sheepish I felt having to look up this Health And Safety Term. Low and behold its not even a H/S term.... its general gizmo speak.! I probably need one, don't I??

Posted By MT Sorry Kevin, I should have said that the definition of user is contained within the DSE Regs. If people are asking the question, then I would lay my hands on a copy of the regs if I were you, then you'll be able to convince them that they are not DSE users.
