Hi ALL

I am having a problem on a project of mine where we have a toilet block sited. The wc block has a tank that stored all the waste from washing etc. This tank has been emptied on a weekly basis for 3-4 months with no problem.

Then last week the company who remove the waste refused to do so because the waste showed signs of paint. We have checked all the paints on site and have found that they are all water based and the residue is caused by the painters washing their hands.

Can anyone clarify the position on the composition of the wast that can be taken away in a toilet block?

Regards

Paul

Paul,

I think this is more a question of what the conractor is will to take away, more than what can be taken away. Ask them to be specific about their objection, and the requirements for the removal of the waste

The paint presence is not likely to cause any significant change to the hazard classification of the waste. Having said that I think that the carrier believes that more than handwashing is occuring and this will impact on the disposal route he has selected.

Hi All

just had a conversation with the waste carrier who has informed me that the treatment plant have advised him that the bugs they put into the effulent will not attack the paint which then makes it harder to produce clean water.
