Digital Pressure Indicator - Use during Asbestos Air Monitoring
Rank: Guest

Posted By Martin Hilditch Hi,
I am trying to find out if there is any relevance as to the use of a Digital Pressure Indicator to take atmospheric pressure and temperature measurements during Asbestos Air Monitoring.
Does anyone know what thye relevance is?
Thanks
Martin

Posted By Mike The correction for deviation of temperature and pressure from standard conditions is described in HSG248 Appendix A1.14. It is good practice to note environmental conditions. It would be exceptional for temperature/pressure make a significant difference to sampled volume (for asbestos)in the UK, but you should be aware of how to estimate the significance relative to the uncertainty of the whole test.

Posted By Bruce Sutherland Hi Martin
I think you will find that the revised version of lab 30 - which is the stick that UKAS beat all the asb labs with still retains the reference to being able to correlate the measurements of temp and pressure back to stp.
this is despite many best efforts to get rid of it unless you are clearing a hot boiler room or the pub at Shap or somewhere else in the Cairngorms.
not sure exactly what angle you are looking at this from - but if commercial then yes there is likely to be a market I would think - but we don't need any ...........
regards
Bruce

Posted By Dave Wilson This is something called a 'Torch cross' it is very rarely used today and measures the Negative Pressure within an asbestos enclosure.
What generally happens is that if you put sufficient Neggies on an enclosure depending on the area size and are after at least 8 air changes per hour then the enclosure will be a sufficient negative pressure.
I tried to purchase one of these and it is almost impossible if any one knowns then can they post n here.

Posted By Dave Wilson just read that again there would be no use at all if during air monitoring as the area would not be under negative pressure unless you are doing personals or background outside the tented enclosure.
