Posted By Phillipe Hi
Has anyone had any experience of dealing with Plantar Fasciitis with their employees. For those with no experience it is a condition of the foot were the ligament from the heel to the middle of the foot becomes inflamed etc. Can be caused by hard flooring, excessive wear and tear, obesity, age, common in females above the age of 40yrs.
I am aware from a medical perspective how it can be treated such as rest, cortisone injections, surgery etc, but what about from a H&S perspective? Anti-fatigue mats, do they help by any chance?
Any help as usual is much appreciated
Cheers
Phil

Posted By J Knight Hi Peter,
I have had Plantar Fasciitis for two years now, and apart from cortisone injections I have tried just about everything. Nothing really works, and the discomfort varies from day to day with only a mild correlation with any exercise I may have done. For example, I o almost abandoned running when the condition started, but I have recently started a graded return to running; some days my foot hurts after a 20 minute run, some days it's fine after half an hour.
The only thing I have tried which has had some effect is structured physio rehab, but even that didn't 'cure' it, though it did give me the confidence to return to weight bearing exercise.
Anti-fatigue mats will help to an extent, as will soft surfaces in general, but the only real relief is to take all the weight off my feet; otherwise some level of discomfort is very likely.
Cortisone injections have shown around a 50% success rate in some studies (according to my partner who is a physio), but other studies show little effect,
John
