As safety practioners I know we wear many hats. What I wish to know is there any safety guys / girls doing a HR jobs as well as the day job?
If so what simple training did you take to be able to do that job? Are there any courses for non HR orientated folk?

As ever thanks for any advice given and advice rec'd in the past year.

Hi Barrie,

The main qualification for HR practitioners is usually the CIPD Professional Development Scheme. A lower level HR starting point would be their Certificates (which I think are, and certainly were, around NVQ level 3 equivalent).

Try this link

http://www.cipd.co.uk/ma...ied/centresearchinfo.htm

for more info, or just look on www.cipd.co.uk.

Good Luck!

Hi Barrie

As a person who has HR qualifications and experience and also H&S I find the job interlinks in many areas. Completing the Certificate of Personnel Practice is not a simple affair though (I think there is NVQ available) and you have to put a lot of time into research and a project much the same as the H&S route. I have found that the skills gained through the HR route complement the H&S skills..
The CIPD website is very useful in getting you started and will point you to training providers in your area.

Hi Barrie
I carry out both the roles you mention along with production for 100 staff. I don't have HR qualifications just experience. Both roles are very similar in their approach and you have got to know subject matter.

I would certainly recommend both avenues for study as they both present interesting and challenging situations.
