Posted By Melanie Fellows I've just been asked if I can provide confined space training to our employees (which I can't), but what training would I need to be able to?
Is there a 'train the confined space trainer' course? Or is it knowledge and a training qualification?
Thanks,
Mel

Posted By Dave Merchant Depends on the level of work - the normal "you must be entirely competent and familiar with the skills in order to train" idiom applies, but if you're also responsible for delegate safety during practical exercises then you'd better have your own certificates up to date, including all the first aid, rescue, etc. you may need. Confined spaces are not the best place to apply "see one, do one, teach one". You'll also need PL insurance, as if you teach something wrong you're probably going to be contacted by someone's next of kin.
Talk to some of the better-known CS training providers and ask if they'll do you a train-the-trainer course - if they say no then at least they'll explain why, and if they say yes they'll be able to advise on what prerequisites you'll need to collect first.

Posted By DJ Melanie,
Try the Mines Rescue Service. They run some excellent courses.
Regards.
