As IOSH has ten of thousands of members I was wondering what other members new and exciting initiatives were being implemented for 2008 to improve health and safety in the workplace?

Not sure about other projects, but with the European Chemicals Agency going active in June this year anyone who handles chemicals (and who doesn't) will need to consider the implications of REACH for their organisation.

This extremely complex piece of legislation (the original Regulation runs to 849 pages and there are many thousands of pages of guidance notes already) will impact on almost every business. In some situations specific chemicals may disappear from the market as the cost of registration, etc., will outweigh any commercial benefit. This could affect your business!

For many importers of chemical products the cost of registering all the many constituents of the products they import may mean that they can no longer remain in business. Thus products that you now purchase and use may simply disappear.

So if you haven't already taken a good look at this new regulations, perhaps now is the time.
