Posted By Ron Hunter As far as I am aware, there are no rules or regulations as you describe. If I were prepared to pay the deposit, and had a suitable vehicle to tow the compressor and carry the hammer, then I (and you) could go and hire one!

Posted By steve e ashton Yes Ron, but if we tried to do it whilst employed within the UK, we would likely be in breach of about five sets of Regulations - not least PUWER, Manual Handling, Noise, Construction Design and Management etc etc. Plus the parent, the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974. So - are there any 'standard international rules and regulation' or competence certificate requirements? - no (simple answer) BUT - Does this mean that you or I could (safely) go and hire one and use it? - no!. Does it mean that someone in (say) Port Harcourt or Puerto Rico could send one of the local workers down to the local hire shop to get one and use it on site without training?? Absolutely not. We need to be very careful in providing answers to queries that may not originate in the UK and could be asked by people who may not always understand the difference between what the 'law' requires and what common sense dictates. John: Find out what the local codes of regulation (if any) require, follow the standard codes or guidance within the local area, and then perhaps look internationally if you want to improve... Starting with the 'International' perspective is always going to cause problems for some of the IOSH membership who have only ever worked in the UK. Steve
