Posted By Jim Walker I see in the Jan. SHP (page 7) there is an EDM to regulate the H&S profession.
Is there an easy "online" way of contacting my MP (not a clue who he/she is!) and asking them to sign this?
If yes then can some one place it here and everyone of us (who agree) contacts our MP.

Posted By Jim Walker Thanks
Thats as idiot proof as it gets I've just sent this message to my MP:
FOR THE ATTENTION OF:
Andy Reed MP Loughborough
Dear Andy,
Competence of Health & Safety Advice
Could I bring to your attention a early day motion tabled by Micheal Clapham which contains various concerns about Health & Safety at work, including the need to regulate competent advice to companies regarding Health & Safety. Many of the silly stories (attributted to H&S officers) you see in the newspapers are caused by people who do not really understand how to manage H&S at work. REAL H&S professionals do not go around banning things.
Business and workplaces would be safer & more prosperous if only qualified people were allowed to advise them. After all a business would not use an unqualified architect, Lawyer nor accountant.
If you have not done so could you consider pledging support & also signing this EDM??
Yours sincerely,

My only concern with this is that there are many non chartered professionals who are more than competent in thier areas, however, MP's being somewhat simplistic at times often go for the easy or poular option - Competent = Chartered.
I do hope that IOSH actually work and promote a reasoned view for such a registration that encompasses ALL it's members.

Posted By DavidW I for one would welcome regulation but share Bretts concern that it must not only be Chartered IOSH members who are considered competent. I work with a number of very competent H&S people who have little or nothing to do with IOSH as they are members of IIRSM or other professional bodies. If it's done properly, it should benefit everyone.
