We are just about to establish a new storage area for gas bottles outside of our maintenance area.

With previous employers I wasr equired to have 10m seperation between Oxygen and other bottles but can not find any reference to this in the HSE guidance.

Is this a standard practice for Oxygen bottles or is it over the top?

From what I remember it is recommended by BOC, last time I used oxygen cylinders, they have a very good guide - 'Safe Under Pressure' about the safe handling, use and storage of cylinders it's normally about £5-00 from BOC or if you go to a BOC depot they occasionally have 'spare' copies you can have.

Martin,

There is very clear advice on separation distances in BCGA GUIDANCE NOTE, GN 2, Guidance for the Storage of Gas Cylinders in the Workplace. 10 metres is completely over the top based on the information that you have provided.
