Posted By Dave Wilson Depends what your company business is mate?
Most CC/LA use CHAS Construction use CHAS / Nat Brit Utilities use UDVB Verify service industries use CHAS / Nat brit
Its up to you mate, we have them all as we service all industries and they are all very much the same

Posted By Ron Hunter Whereas I'm aware of CHAS accepting previous assessment by at least some other recognised schemes, I'm not sure if this is reciprocal. Depending on the numbers, you could canvas your existing contractor listings with your intentions to see who currently has been assessed and by whom?

Posted By Dave Wilson CHAS recognise others as this scheme is operated by the HSE through the London Borough of Merton, and as they are a non profit entity they are inexpensive however as the other schemes are run by a 'Business' then they make profit from it and as such they will NOT recognise CHAS. Chas recognise Nat Brit but NAT Brit dont reciprocate for example, and none of them recognise each other BUT CHAS DO! Its a paperwork exercise mate for them all and its all very much the same questions and paperwork required. You can go to the CHAS site and download the Assessment questionnaire http://www.chas.gov.uk/In the contracting game you would need them all!!

Posted By John Murphy Dave,
On a point of accuracy. HSE have always supported the CHAS scheme which is managed and run by Merton Council on behalf of its client users. However it is not HSE's scheme.

Posted By Paul R Many schemes align themselves around the 'core criteria' in the CDM ACoP. I'd recommend that anyone who wants to set up a way of assessing contractors refers to these criteria, and that anyone looking to adopt a scheme asks them if they meet the criteria, and if they go beyond these what value would that add to you and for that matter, the contractor. I'd certainly recommend that anyone setting up an assessment themselves uses the CDM core criteria. Anything different might be adding to duplication of effort by the contractor and ultimatlely that can mean extra cost to clients.
